Birds, Barriers, Fish and Clean Water: How Are They Connected?

Come outside with Mystic River Watershed Association educators, scientists,researchers, and water quality experts and discover an important local ecological story you might not know. River herring are vital organisms in our local ecosystem.

Each spring they migrate up the Mystic River to spawn. Despite human created barriers and urban waterways, their numbers are on the rise. See the Upper Mystic Lakes Dam and fish ladder.

Find out about:
• The unique lifecycle of river herring
• Scientists studying the fish
• How water quality is monitored
• What animals eat river herring – including bald eagles
