To Extremes: Art in a Changing World
Exhibit open April 20-29, 11-5pm
Public Reception: Monday, April 23, 2012, 7pm
Maseeh Hall, 305 Memorial Drive
An exhibition of proposed public art works exploring extreme weather
and global warming, made by professional artists in partnership with climate scientists. To Extremes draws inspiration from a recent major scientific report. A jury of experts in the visual arts and science selected works for the exhibit. The goal is for pieces proposed in the exhibition to be built in specific sites in the US. Sponsors include Knight Science Journalism at MIT, Museum of Science Boston, Artists in Context and Urban Arts Institute.
Join us for the public reception where nine artists and designers explore themes of extreme events and climate change through bold proposals for public artworks in urban or rural spaces. Though collaboration and input from scientists and journalists, To Extremes is a new way to explore science that matters to us all. The winner of the $2500 first prize for the exhibition will describe their winning proposal as part of the reception.
