Remembering H.M.
At the age of 27, Henry Molaison became frozen in time. After experimental brain surgery, H.M. (as he was known to the scientific community) was unable to form new memories. His personal tragedy became neuroscience’s golden opportunity, contributing more to our understanding of the brain than had been learned in the previous 100 years.

Science of Music with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra

Cahners Theater at Museum of Science
The Museum of Science and the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra team up to explain the Science of Music. Find out why a violin sounds different from a trumpet and enjoy a live performance from the orchestra's chamber group. The program will end with an opportunity to meet local musicians and try out some instruments for yourself.

Annosphere
April 20, 21, 23, 25, 27 from 12-4pm at Cambridge Public Library, 449 Broadway
See the seasons change before your eyes, as the hand-crafted, brass and mahogany annosphere cycles night and day in minutes. In the style of 19th century scientific instruments, the annosphere mechanically models the earth-sun relationship. Like a sundial, the annosphere uses light to tell time with a moving shadow. It recreates sunrise and sunset, the solstices and the equinoxes, for any place on earth.

Come to the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway to experience the vast capabilities of our 35' light blades. Learn about the technology as you experience a carefully choreographed light performance. Follow along with your smart phone every night of the festival or meet park staff to learn more on Friday, April 20th & Tuesday, April 24th.

Hands-on Laboratory at the Museum of Science
The Suit/Cabot Laboratory is a fun, interactive, hands-on learning laboratory space where people of all ages are encouraged to explore a variety of topics in the sciences – from chemistry to genetics to nanotechnology to microbiology… using many of the same tools and techniques as real scientists would in their labs. Stop by for ongoing activities and help conduct real experiments.

Indoor bolts spark explorations into lightning, electric charge, and storm safety using the Museum’s giant Van de Graaff Generator, invented in Cambridge!

Trash Tales Discovery Room (Drop-in Family Event)
Free with Peabody Museum admission
April 20-21, 2012 at 12:00-4:00pm
Recommended for ages 5 and up accompanied by an adult
People around the world make fun toys and useful items from what might be considered trash. Celebrate Earth Day by exploring real artifacts and the stories behind shoes made with tires, toys shaped from scrap wire, and more. Make your own toy or other creation from “trash” to take home, while supplies last.
